Day 2.

Healesville Sanctuary 9am

HEALESVILLE WEBSITE

Australia has alot of wildlife and one of the best places to see our native fauna is at the Healeville Sanctuary. Most animals are with-in easy reach. Renate was very happy to be be able to touch our furry friends such as the kangaroos, wallabies and wombats. Ollie ( James' girlfriend ) surprisingly liked the snakes.

The girls went directly to Mansfield, but Chris and I visited Wayne Fulton the Director of the Department of Natural Resources Fish Hatchery at Snobs Creek. After a tour of the facility, Wayne brought us up to date on recent crayfish surveys. The good news, murray crayfish although smaller in size, are not at present on the decrease. I know that makes me happy.

Well known Australian biologist Geoff Gooley shows us this year's fry which will be released into our rivers and lakes.

Mansfield Lakeside Ski Village 6.30pm

Below. Well I think this was another first for Chris and Renate. Staying in our on-site caravan is a bit of fun, even if it's a bit rough. However it's all worthwhile when you get up in the morning and you are greeted with the local views. Renate had fun feeding the magpies and Chris and I went and caught yabbies of course.

The morning view, find out more about Eildon, Mansfield and the surrounding area area from the link below.

Our good ol' caravan. Mansfield is ideally placed for my crayfishing activities, there is two varieties of euastacus, two varieties of cherax and serveral varieties of engaeus living in the area.
