General Meetings are held at Language Centre, Latrobe University, 8 PM 1st Wednesday of each month
(Excl. Dec & Jan)

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING WED JULY 5
Member attendance was up for this particular night but not as good as hoped. Maybe you could let us know what we should be doing to attract more members to our meetings.
Our guest speaker, Mostafa Alam gave a most interesting slide & overhead presentation on what has been happening with inland fisheries in Bangladesh. Bangladesh is experiencing many of the problems we have seen here in Australia - habitat degradation, river regulation, irrigation, reduced stream flows and over exploitation by professional fishermen. Following Mostafa's presentation, chairman Graeme Creed presented the Branch Annual Report prior to the elections for the new committee.
Graeme expressed appreciation to Ron Lewis, Ray Power, Bob Hall and Brian Smith for their regular attendance and contribution at our committee meetings. Brian Smith has also been a delegate to the National Executive. Brian has not re-nominated this year due to health problems. We wish him well for the future.
We are pleased to introduce some "new faces to our committee" - Luke Wilkinson, Paul Berner, Marina Carr, Jim Cairns, Bob Paterson and Lynden Trickey; and welcome back Wayne Godfrey
Luke who works in the aquarium industry has taken over as President, Marina, his girlfriend, will assist, Bob will look after our newsletter and Paul has volunteered to be "Acting Treasurer".
The new committee is :
President - Luke Wilkinson, Vice President - Ron Lewis, Secretary - Graeme Creed, Treasurer (Acting) - Paul Berner, Committee - Jim Cairns, Marina Carr, Wayne Godfrey, Bob Hall, Rob Paterson, Ray Power, Lynden Trickey.
As this newsletter is being packaged & posted, we are receiving the keys to the old Mont Park Hospital Pharmacy Building. We are hoping to hold our meetings there from October onwards, but you will be advised.
Our new Committee met on July 18 and already has instituted plans for a number of initiatives :
Live fish display equipment repairs - Luke Wilkinson to co-ordinate (Luke can be contacted on 0404 850 701 if you can assist). Luke will also co-ordinate the live fish displays. NOTE XMAS BBQ VENUE over page.

NEWS FROM VICTORIAN FISHERIES
The long awaited Regulatory Impact Statement on Bag Limits has been released for public comment.
The new regulations will include : golden perch min. size 30 cm and a bag limit of 10 per day, Australian bass bag limit of 2 and estuary perch a bag limit of 10 (of which no more than 2 can be bass), blackfish 5x
The Governor in Council Order required to introduce new regulations for Macquarie perch, catfish, silver perch and Murray cod is supposed to be signed within two weeks. (We know that you've heard that before and will probably only believe it when you see it, but this time we believe it will happen and about time too.)
The Departmental plan is to have these new regulations proclaimed in time to be included in the new Recreational Fishing Guide which will be printed and available before the Melbourne Fishing Show in October.

GUEST SPEAKERS

At each of our last four meetings, we have had some excellent guest speakers with less than average attendances which has been disappointing.
For our August meeting (2nd), we have arranged for Pam Clunie to speak to us about her work on catfish. She will have a series of slides as well. Pam has worked with the Flora and Fauna Division of the Dept of Natural Resources & Environment.
For September, we have arranged for John Mosig to speak about Aquaculture and re-circulating systems.
John is a member of the Aquaculture Committee of the Fisheries Co-Management Council.

SPECIAL REQUEST FROM NEW MELBOURNE MUSEUM
We have been asked by the new Melbourne Museum to provide River Blackfish and Tupong for their live fish display. We need these fish by August 10 - can you go fishing this week and catch a blackfish for us ? Give Graeme Creed a ring on 9848 2285 when you've got one. Tupong can be found in the Yarra River.

ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTIONS are due on 30 June each year.
Current subscriptions are :
Adult $ 25.00, Student $ 15.00. Pensioner $ 15.00, Family $ 30.00
Have you sent in your subscription as yet ?
We have applied for an ABN, but there is doubt as to whether we should be registered for GST. We may have to charge GST on our subscription fees. If you haven't paid as yet, we suggest you do so immediately at the current rates otherwise it will cost you an extra 10%.

Nick Thorne, Webmaster for NFA's web site, has been very busy of late upgrading the site with new information and photographs. The site is attracting in excess of 300 hits per day which is a reflection on the excellent site Nick has produced.
